Number of fucks given in this post: 3
Sophia and Jack are hanging about outside where the funeral took place.
Sofia has the look of a woman who knows other people are grieving. She isn’t. But she has been asked to attend and so is here.
She’s showing respect by not using the gathering as a pamphleteering exercise.
Jack is sad and quietly respectful during the funeral, but perhaps wasn’t so close to Ricky as to be deeply upset as some others are.
Primrose has looked sombre for most of the evening, gone are the pink sparkly gogo boot and in it’s place the black PVC boots have returned. They are accompanied by a black wiggle dress with a black under burst over the top and plunging v neckline. It’s about the most respectful black clothes she owns. She has spent most of the evening shooting concerned looks at Tius, but otherwise has been making the rounds talking to everyone. She makes her goodbyes to most of them but noticeably avoids saying goodbye to Tius.
She heads over to where Sofia and Jack are and asks, “Pelican about? I think…I think I need to get out of here and dance.”
Jack: I think he’s taking a minute over there.
“He’s mourning a chipped nail I think” Sophie says helpfully.
Jack rolls her eyes at Sophie’s comment.
Primrose smiles and for what feels like the first time that night lets out a laugh at Sofia’s joke. She quickly covers her mouth, remembering where she is, which of course, with the combination of the bloodmeade, just causes her shoulders to shake a bit as she tries to suppress the giggles.
Jack looks at Primrose, a bit bemused
Sophie grins, with a total lack of remorse. “Nails are hard to keep nice. Had he even met Ricky? We’re all here, I know, but…”
She shrugs and then says cheerfully “I know a nice burlesque place by the way. Very women friendly.”
Finally able to stop the giggles Primrose grins and says, “Sounds like my kind of place.” she turns to Jack and says, “Up for it?”
Jack: Eh what me? Burlesque?
Sofia nods helpfully, “Filled with very athletic women. Just your sort of place.”
Jack blinks, “Why specifically woman? I mean, for my kind of place? Most people point me at biker bars or rock clubs.”
Primrose: “I don’t think we’re expected to actually do the burlesque, just watch it,” says Primrose to Jack and then looks to Sofia for confirmation.
“Would you prefer a biker bar?”
Jack shrugs, “I’d just been going to head home.”
Primrose smiles at Jack and says, “Come out with us to the burlesque, that’ll be way more fun! Besides…I may have snatched some of the last of Ricky’s bloodmeade… and I have the means to make more…”
Sophie shrugs. “I dance. But we can do a biker bar. Or pool hall. Or…whatever.”
Jack: I suppose I could do out for a little while. Burlesque is fine. Probably smells better.
Primrose looks between the two other girls happily and says, “Well I mean, if dancing is allowed then I’ll give anything a try once. Shall we burlesque then?” says Primrose cheerily.
She looks around the room and says, “Should we wait for Pelican?”
Jack: I’ll send him a text and he can catch up. What’s the place called?
Sophia: Red Riding.
“Cool,” says Primrose, “this is going to be fun.”
Jack raises an eyebrow, “Calling a cab, then?”
Sophie says, “Come on. Let’s go….”
“Love it,” says Primrose when Sofia tells them the name, she nods to Jack and says, “yeah, probably not a good idea to go on the bike just now…has anyone got a phone?”
Jack: After the bloodmeade earlier I already called my guy to pick it up. And do you mean this phone?
Jack waves about the phone she texted on.
“Cab it is then,” says Primrose happily. She sees the phone in Jack’s hands and smiles sheepishly, “uh…yeah…that one.”
Jack phones for a cab
Primrose shifts her tan rucksack onto her other shoulder and there is the sound of clinking bottles inside it.
Jack: Jeez, how many have you got in there!?
“Just a couple,” she says with a grin, “maybe three…I didn’t know how many of us there would be. I like to be prepared.”
Jack: Like a good girl scout! Here’s our cab.
Primrose winks and salutes, “yes ma’am.”
Jack smiles at Primrose who reaches for the back door and holds it open for Sofia and Heather.
Jack pauses and smiles, “It’s fine. You go first.”
Primrose smiles and slides into the car, not nearly as gracefully as she should, given the boots and the wiggle dress.
Jack goes in after Sophie and closes the door, “Red Riding Burlesque club please.”
Sofia slides in happily and Jack takes one of the fold-down seats to face Primrose and Sophia.
Sophia: “I think Doyle is off on some manly drinking binge with important people. Man…he’s gone respectable.”
She sounds moderately disgusted by this.
Jack: Respectable?
Primrose rolls her eyes, not at Sofia but at the ‘manly drinking binge’ and mutters, “Of course he is.”
“Yes, I echo that, respectable?” enquires Primrose.
Sophia: Yeah. You know, being a Prince, hanging out with Elders, not trying to tear down the fucked up and corrupt systems. Wearing a waistcoat. Respectable.”
She sighs mournfully.
Heather looks out the window and taps her fingers on her leg.
Primrose laughs and says, “Ok, yeah, I see your point, there’s maybe been a bit of change, but hey, have to admit he suits the waistcoat.”
Jack shakes her head while still looking out the window
Sophie wrinkles her nose. “Bit bourgeois.”
Primrose continues to laugh and nods, “Yeah, I suppose it’s quite a change from before. But Doyle? Bourgeois? He might be Prince but there’s no way I’m taking him to afternoon tea anytime soon. Or evening tea…I suppose.”
Jack looks back at the two of you, “You do know that we’re not in private, right?”
Primrose looks round at the driver and then back at Jack she gives a little shrug and says, “They must hear all kinds of crazy shit. I’m sure,” she thinks for a moment, “They don’t care about our mad friend that thinks he’s a prince.”
Jack sighs, “Give me one of those bottles. I’m going to need it.”
Primrose grins at her and delves into her bag pulling out one of the wine bottles and holding it out to Jack.
Jack opens it, takes a deep swig, then passes it back to Primrose.
Primrose takes a long drink as well and then hands it to Sofia, “so good.”
Jack: I guess talking about the fashion statement makes a bit of a change compared to what I’ve been doing over the last few months.
Primrose: “What have you been up too?” asks curiously, her eyes flick to the driver again and says, “in vague terms. If you can even tell us, I know the security clearance for your job is pretty high.”
Jack eyes Sophie, “I already mentioned I was in Manchester about the political situation down there. Mostly it’s working on the job finding out what happened to the church group and anything left over after the big thing that happened in Hamilton.
Sophie says angelically “I should visit Manchester soon. I hear it has great architecture.”
Jack: Thanks for bringing your friend to the last group meeting. I probably would’ve stayed here if he hadn’t had a chat with me. Jack doesn’t sound especially thankful, or pleased. She takes the bottle back and takes another drink.
Sophie does wrinkles her nose at that. “Do you mean Irish stereotype man?”
Primrose’s eyes flick between to the two women, not daring to speak. She holds out her hand for the bottle when Heather is finished with it.
Jack laughs despite herself and passes the bottle over, “Yeah him. Good guy but don’t think I can support what he’s trying to do.”
Sofia shrugs, “He’s not one of the Movement’s great intellects. I don’t know what he is one of the Movement’s ‘greats’ at actually.
“Um. Moving on.” she adds.
Primrose takes a long drink but doesn’t take her eyes off the two women. She then holds it out to Sofia. “Sounds like things are… tense down there…but hey, at least all that Hamilton stuff is resolved eh?” says Primrose cheerily.
Jack: It would be nice to think that. Resolved… but there is likely to be snagging issues.
Primrose: “Oh yeah, but at least Tius and the others were able to…you know…give a talking to to those…three losers.”
Jack looks out the window, “Is that us here?”
Primrose: “Yes! We’re here! Where is your pretty boy Glaswegian?”
Jack checks her phone, “Pelican? Looks like he’ll be about 20mins or so.”
She hands the driver some cash and opens the cab door to get out.
Primrose looks out the window at the club and nods appreciatively. She then proceeds to follow Jack out of the taxi, pulling down the back of her dress as she goes and stumbling a bit as she steps out onto the pavement.
“Do you want some money for the taxi?” asks Primrose reaching a hand into her bag.
Jack: Fucks sake, no it’s fine. I’m in trouble with my status if I can’t pay for a taxi by myself. Is there a queue?
Primrose gives a nod and closes her bag, “Ok, fair enough, but I’ll get the next one.”
She looks around and says, “I don’t know. Do you think you can get us in Sofia?”
Sophie beams. “If I can’t, Something has gone wrong with the world, when it comes to night club queues, Presence has traditionally solved all Sofia’s problems.”
“Woo!” says Primrose excitedly, “then lets get this party started!”
Jack nods.
Primrose takes the and puts it back into her bag.
Jack: After you!
It’s a woman on the door this evening, she takes in the three women in front of her and says, “Evening ladies. Where have you been this evening?”
“A funeral” Sophie says, and manages a crooked smile. “We wanted to be reminded what life feels like in the aftermath. How are you this evening?”
“Oh…uh, sorry for your loss,” says the woman with a sheepish smile, “I’m doing fine, you been here before? You look familiar.”
Jack McGregor gets out of a taxi wearing his usual nice court attire with a black tie, his hair is a bit shorter than usual though…
Jack is looking about at the street and spots him. She waves in his direction.
Primrose waves at him enthusiastically and then motions to the hair, “looking good!”
He approaches the three “Cheers, fancied a change, eh?” He looks to the exchange between Sofia and the bouncer .
Sophie smiles and replies to the bouncer, “Yeah. Couple of times.
“Nice place this,” she continues as she plays with her hair slightly. “Not like the other burlesque nights out, right?”
Jack looks around at the people on the street.
The woman smiles at Sophia, a slight dreamy look coming over her, “it sure is…and no, not at all, these guys with you?”
“Yeah. Friends of mine. “Come and see us when you’re done and I’ll get you a drink, right?”
“Is that a promise?” asks the Bouncer, leaning a little closer to Sofia.
Jack mutters something about a drink in an amused tone.
Sofia meets the bouncer’s eyes and bites on her lip. “Yeah. Yeah. It is”
McGregor whispers to himself, “Ooft”.
The bouncers grin widens and says, “alright, I’ll hold you to it…on you go.”
The Bouncer stands back to let Sofia and her group in, her eyes never leaving Sofia.
Primrose nods approvingly again and follows in the crowd in and Jack follows Primrose.
Jack: Is there somewhere we can get some privacy?
Primrose: “There’s a free booth over there,” says Primrose and starts making a beeline for it.
Jack looks about the room then moves to follow again.
Primrose drops herself down into the booth with a grin, “I like this place.”
Jack: Is it table service? Better get a bottle of something out of politeness.
Jack McGregor: Aye, was gonnae say, better get a round in so we don’t look like weirdos.
Jack: Primrose has brought… refreshments
Primrose nods and spots one of the ‘stable boy’ waiters, giving them a little wave to come over, flashing them a smile.
“Could I have a bottle of Merlot please,” asks Primrose sweetly
McGregor looks a bit uneasy, “Refreshments?”
Jack puts four £20 notes on the tray, “Merlot for me too. And some privacy for the rest of the evening.”
The waiter gives a nod, his eyes widening at the money, nods again and then turns to Jack waiting for his order.
Jack McGregor: Just a couple pints mate, can’t hack the Merlot.
He drops the waiter a wink and a nod.
The waiter gives a smile and heads off to the bar with your order. When he’s gone Primrose opens her bag a little to show Pelican the three wine bottles inside, one of them half drunk already.
Jack: You didn’t try the meade at the funeral, Jack?
Jack McGregor: Ahh, that stuff knocks you on yer arse.
“I know right?! It’s the best,” says Primrose excitedly, “so how are you two? What you been up too?”
Jack: Eh, working.
Jack McGregor: Ah did Aye, but you never know what a kindred means when they say ‘Refreshments’.
He lets out a chuckle, “Aye, workin’, keepin’ busy”
Primrose laughs and says to McGregor, “I mean yeah, that’s completely fair. Especially when it’s someone like me.”
She shakes her head and says, “oh come on, all work and no play? I think I’ve come into your lives at just the right time.”
Jack spots the waiter approaching the table with the wine and beer.
The waiter carefully drops down the two bottles of wine and the pints, “if you need anything else just call me over, I’ll make sure you’re left alone.”
“Thanks”, Jack smiles at the waiter, looking somehow more cool and interesting than usual.
Jack: I get to ride my bike really fast. Counts as play for me.
The waiter gives her a longing look, not too dissimilar to the dreamy look of the bouncer and gives a nod before heading off back to the bar.
Primrose grins and says, “neat.”
She reaches forward and takes one of the bottles, pretending to be opening it under the table, but then takes out one of the other bottles in her bag.
Jack: Fill ‘er up! …I see Sophie got distracted with that bouncer.
“Yes! the bike! Ok! that counts, you still owe me a ride,” says Primrose as she leans forward to fill up Jack’s glass.
She waves the bottle at McGregor, “Want some?”
Then Primrose grins and says, “She sure did. Glad to see the girl having some fun.”
Jack: Better than worrying over Doyle’s waistcoats.
Primrose laughs as she pours some bloodmeade into her own glass, “she loves him really, just doesn’t like to see the daddy not living up to expectations.”
McGregor takes the bottle, “Smells like an orange lodge.”
He takes a swig.
Primrose laughs at McGregor and says, “and since you guys let me tag along with your after rant party I now know what one of those places smell like…you are correct.”
Jack rolls her eyes at Primrose’s comment.
Jack: Not sure if I admire your courage at hanging out with us letting off steam, or wince at your disregard of danger.
“A bit of both?” suggests Primrose, “there was no way I wasn’t getting in on that action and I regret nothing. That was a great night.”
Jack McGregor: It was brilliant, showed those orange bastards what for.
Jack: I don’t know how that girl I fed from in the toilets at the rave was able to stand upright after all she’d drunk.
McGregor looks to Jack, “Aye, the people at the rave were all equally as fucked as each other by the end.”
Primrose: “Sounds like you two had a great time that night!” says Primrose happily, “We sure did, I had so much fun trashing that place.”
“I’m not even sure how I got home that night…did I go home that night?” says Primrose considering it with a frown.
Jack: What do you do for fun then Primrose? when you aren’t hanging out with us?
Jack McGregor: Breakin’ kindred hearts, I bet.
Jack smiles.
Primrose laughs and says, “Nice of you to say but I don’t think anyone is breaking their heart over me. Well, I’ve been doing fairly normal things, you know, watching Disney movies, singing karaoke, visiting a few tombs in Egypt.”
She grins and takes a sip of the bloodmeade.
Jack also takes a sip of the bloodmeade, then asks, “You told me before that you were visiting Egypt, right? Although I’m not sure that’s any less nuts than watching Disney movies and singing karaoke.
Primrose nods, “I am, it’s contributing to some research that I’m doing at the moment, but mostly it’s just because I always wanted to go there. I mean…I say always, what I mean is at least the past 8 years I’ve wanted to go there. It’s amazing, you should see it. The amount of history there it’s just…it’s amazing.”
She laughs and says, “What’s wrong with Disney and a bit of singing? It helps with morale and builds camaraderie!”
Jack looks about for anyone who looks like they are listening and takes a larger drink that her previous sip.
Primrose looks around when Heather does, not sure what it is that she’s looking for, “everything ok?”
Jack: Just checking who is about, since I was about to ask a risky question – what’s it like in Egypt kindred-wise. What’s the setup?
Primrose nods and smiles, “good plan, think we’re good though, our server seems to be keeping them away.
“Well in Alexandria, which is the only Cam city I’ve been too at the moment, there is an Assamite Prince, they call him the young king. As you can imagine, he wasn’t best pleased at one of my lot turning up, but I’m hoping to change his mind…might be a bit harder now but we’ll see. Other than that you’ve got a real mix, quite a high volume of Nosferatu, Malkavians. And of course, many, many Setites.”
Jack: A bit harder now?
Primrose: “Yeah,” says Primrose, “some shit went down and because it just so happened to coincide with my arrival there I don’t think the young king is best pleased with me. But hey, nothing new about that, I get blamed for everything. Do you know that Viktor still thinks it was me that made Carlisle ugly?”
She takes a long drink and says, “So what do you do when you’re not on patrol and sorting out folks in Manchester?”
Jack: Mostly I just tinker with my bike or go riding. Catch a game of pool or two.
Primrose listens and smiles, “sounds like good fun. When you say ‘tinkering’ do you mean like…making it go faster? Pool’s cool, I’m shit at it but it’s good fun. Who do you normally play with?”
Jack: Mostly I just play against whoever is in the pool hall at the time.
Primrose asks, “You mean you haven’t gone with like anyone in the court? I’ll come! Maybe you can teach me!”
Sophie ambles back to the table looking sad. “Poor lass. That bouncer is going through the shittiest break up with her girlfriend. Who has drinks?”
Jack passes Sophia the bottle, which she picks up from in between 2 bottles of Merlot.
Primrose turns to Sophie and says, “Aw man, that sucks. Although, I’m sure she’ll find someone to help her forget.”
Jack: Sorry, didn’t know how long you’d be so we didn’t get you a glass.
She thinks for a moment, “I need to get up to nip to the bathrooms so that I can take this jacket off without flashing stake at everyone. I’ll get one.”
Sophie beams, “It’s OK. I have a shot glass in my bag. I can drink from that”
Jack shrugs and gets up and heads off in the direction of the bathroom.
Primrose grins and looks at Sophie, “so do you just carry a shot glass around just in case? Love it! I’m going to start doing that.”
Sophie shrugs, “Metal shot glass. I’ve had a lot broken.”
“Well Metal does seem like a good plan, not just because you lot are really strong.”
Once Sophie has had a chance to pour her drink Primrose will take the bottle from her and top up her own and Heather’s glasses.
“So!” says Primrose after taking a drink from the glass and looking at Sophie, “we’ve never really had a chance to talk about your article…your musical edition.”
Sophie’s expression is all curiosity, “Yes? What about my musical edition? Do you want to audition for the live show?”
Primrose tries to keep the serious expression and then bursts out laughing, “It was amazing, very well done indeed. I had to go look up the song though, not seen that one. And I guess its because of you I now have this,” she says, hooking a finger around the necklace that looks like a version of the ‘Heart of the Ocean’ necklace from Titanic, “where do you get your inspiration from I wonder.”
Jack comes back about 5 mins later, from a different direction.
Primrose gives her a concerned look and said, “Did you get lost?”
Jack: What? No, just had a look about the place. When does the show start?
“Ah cool,” says Primrose and checks her watch, “about 5 minute or so?”
Jack: So what shit went down in Egypt?
Primrose: “My shit or the shit I got blamed for?”
“Either”, Jack asks, grinning and takes a drink.
Primrose: “Well in Alexandria there was a rather gruesome massacre of mortals who seemed to be part of a Setite Cult which in turn has made the setites pretty pissed at the young king and there are rumblings of ‘war’. At roughly the same time, much, MUCH further down the Nile near Luxor, a blonde Lara Croft made her way through some ancient tombs which hadn’t be disturbed in thousands of years, taking many pictures for her research, geeking out over all the symbols of the high priestess and picking a neat set of armour and a fancy Kopesh spear.”
She grins and says, “I’ll let you decide which was which.”
“Do you ever travel abroad? And before you say anything, no Manchester does not count.”
Jack: Depends if Ireland counts… but apart from that no. I might in the future though. Next time I get kicked out of Glasgow!
Primrose: “Wait? Next time you get kicked out of Glasgow? What happened?!”
Jack: There was the time I broke Elysium by Summoning a Toreador out of the building with the intention of… well.. enacting a promise I’d made to her. Silly young me hadn’t realised that using a discipline that way was frowned upon. Lucky for me the Prince at the time didn’t want to kill me so he just exiled me. Did steal her car one time, though. Had it sold for parts before she found out it was gone.
Amused at the memory, Jack takes another drink.
Primrose listens without interruption, eyes widening as Jack recounts her story, when she’s done Primrose grins and says, “A Toreador eh? Well I hope you got the chance to fulfill your promise. So why didn’t he kill you? Did he have a soft spot for you? How could she not have known her car was gone?!”
Jack: Haha, easy answers first. Her car got stolen near the start of a court and I took it straight to a breakers that I knew at the time. You know.. she had a driver but I now can’t remember what I did with him. Knocked him out probably. Or maybe he was sitting waiting somewhere else in the Elysium.
Primrose laughs when Jack describes not being able to remember what happened to the driver.
I never got to do what I promised… got exiled and then she left Glasgow. Or more likely someone killed her cos she was a complete bitch.
“You didn’t?” says Primrose sounding genuinely disappointed, “that’s a shame, what was it you were going to do?”
Jack: I’d said to her, “Say that again and I’ll break your legs.”
In retrospect, not an especially big threat for a kindred. Which was possibly why she insulted me again.
Sophie takes a quiet sip of her wine.
She sighs, slightly mournfully, at this story of kindred violence.
Primrose laughs at the, ‘say that again and I’ll break your legs’, “What did she say? To insult you that is, not to the breaking legs, although yes, what did she say to that as well?”
Jack glances sideways at Sophia for a moment, then looks back at her glass of mead. She flexes her fingers before picking up the glass to take a drink.
Primrose’s eyes flick nervously between Heather and Sophie for a moment, remembering the tension in the taxi.
Jack: I can’t remember what she said. It wasn’t like a massive insult by itself, but it was one of many.
Primrose shakes her head, “yeah, I know the type. Bet she got her little digs in whenever she could, all dressed up in some other seemingly pleasant statement. They’re good at that shit, always finding the right thing to say to get under your skin. I knew a few like that back in London.”
Jack continues, “The Prince at the time was called Rothschilde. Have you heard of him? He was Tremere.”
She thinks for a moment and says, “I think I’ve heard of him yeah, the name definitely. What was he like?”
Primrose takes the bottle and tops up everyone’s glasses, taking a long sip from her own.
Jack: “So yeah, interesting person Rothschilde was… is.. he’s still alive I think. Master manipulator, had the court in terror of him, even though he rarely exercised his power.
“You should ask Angus about him. He was Sheriff and I was Scourge and Rothschilde pretty much did what he wanted with us.” Jack looks into her glass as if to see memories floating about there.
She comments dryly, “Anyway, he seemed to have developed some kind of affection for his pets, I think.”
Jack picks up her glass again and takes a deeper drink.
Primrose listens to the description of Rothschilde, frowning slightly, not at Jack but at the description, as if she is mulling something over. At the ‘affection for his pets’ she frowns again but gives a nod of understanding. “So…in a way…he did have a soft spot for you…wow…”
Jack smiles cheekily and says, “At least it didn’t put me off Tremere completely.”
Primrose laughs and says, “And I’m very grateful for that. Then again, I’m not a regular Tremere, I’m a cool Tremere.”
Jack: Yeah, well, people seem to think that every Tremere is the same, but I’ve known enough of you to know that’s not true.
Primrose asks, “Yeah, I guess there’s a few exceptions huh? Tius isn’t your average Tremere either, so I guess you’ve had a few good examples.”
Jack: Tius, Chauncey, Petitt, Feldman, Daniel… all very different people.
“….I know Daniel,” Primrose says cheerily, “the others….nope, no idea who they are. Must be from before my time.”
Jack: None of them ever wore boots like that! At least not in public anyway.
Primrose laughs again and lifts her leg up a little, the movement currently constrained by the black wiggle dress, “I suppose not. I love them. They are both comfortable and fun, the best kind of shoes, or in this case boots. I like your coat though,” she says pointing to Jack’s coat, “I want one like that. I’ve got a short leather coat that used to belong to an old boyfriend of mine, but the long ones are where it’s at.”
Jack: I got this at a second hand clothes shop what maybe 20 plus years ago. Fit too nice not to buy it. It’s getting a bit worn now, though, and I need to keep renewing the tape holding bits of it together.
“Curses, so unlikely to find it on a rack anywhere,” Primrose says snapping her fingers, “You in the market for a new one then? Maybe we could look together. Shopping trip!! We’ll get one for you too, Sophie!”
Then Primrose asks curiously, “So, once a scourge always a scourge then? You ever held any other position?”
Jack: Yeah, I was sheriff for a little while under Haile. Probably a deputy something at some point.
Primrose asks, “Who’s Haile?”
Jack: He’s a Toreador. Mentioned in a fair few Dark Times articles if you want to look him up. I found him okay, if boring, but he annoyed a lot of people, I think.
Primrose: “Oh! Right! Well… I mean, you had me checking out of that one at ‘Toreador’,” she says with a grin.
Primrose: So have you mostly switched between the two positions? Ooft. That’s two hard jobs, which one do you prefer?
Jack: Scourge. Definitely Scourge. But then I’ve been Scourge a lot longer than I was ever Sheriff and got to develop useful skills.
Primrose: I imagine you have to learn pretty quickly when you’re giving a job like that, not a pretty one either. I reckon it’s probably harder than sheriff. What kind of skills did it teach you?
“Investigation stuff is probably the biggest stuff, with a side order of checking for bugs.” Jack laughs.
Primrose nods, “makes sense. How often do you end up finding bugs then?”
Jack’s phone vibrates. She picks it up and looks at the message. “Sorry guys, I gotta go.
She turns to Pelican, “Something got picked up the Stranraer cameras. I need to look at it. Up to you if you want to stay.”
Primrose looks a little sad when Jack’s phone goes off and she has to leave, “Awww, but we’re just getting started. Tell you what…lets do this again next month. How does that sound? Another girls night out where we can kick back, talk shit and maybe get some dancing in.”
Jack: Lemme see how my diary ends up after the next court. If not, we can go back to plan B if you still want to stop in at the pool hall.
Jack stands up, a little unsteadily, and picks up her coat. Saying their goodbyes Jack and Pelican head out.
Primrose looks back at Sophie once Jack has gone and says, “come to think of it, have you held a position? I mean…Francis isn’t an Anarch, so I assume that was something you chose rather than was,” she does air quotes, “born into.”
Sophie smirks at the question. “You’re right. Doyle isn’t an Anarch… These days. Like I said, he’s gone respectable.”
“Wait…are you telling me…Francis was an Anarch?” says Primrose breaking out into a grin, “Oooooh, I sooooo want the rest of this story.”
Sophia continues, “I tried out the Camarilla for a grand total of six months. When Doyle decided to get a suit and waistcoat, and go chasing after a nice hat, we all signed up. We weren’t the only Camarilla Kindred in LA, were we? But he wanted a different way. I came over here to Glasgow, a newly minted Camarilla Kindred. Met Prince Tius. And went straight back to the old ways.”
At the mention of Tius and going back to the old ways Primrose laughs and gives Sophie a look, “careful, that’s my boss you’re talking about. He’s a good guy, being Prince can’t be easy but trust me, being my mentor is even harder. Can you imagine having to deal with this,” motions to herself, “on a nightly basis AND run a domain?”
“So you should congratulate him.” Sophia says, “Without him, I might have managed to make the transition into being a good girl”
Primrose raises her glass and says, “However, I am very glad that you did not fall into the trap of the ‘good girl’ and even more glad that it means I get to read more of your wonderful articles.”
