Putting aside the Sabbat attack for the moment, it’s been a pretty busy month.
I’ve made contact with the Deputy Harbour master in Stranraer, Steve Millard. He’s not into anything majorly dodgy or linked up with any underworld groups. He’ll accept bribes to look the other way on occasion, maybe let the kids through, but that’s pretty much it.
What’s worrying is that he says that income is all dried up because there are a load of Royal Navy boats out doing “drills” and patrols. Steve pointed them out to me, once night. It’s not just single boats, either; gunships and everything out there.
Jon, my hacker guy, did a good job on getting the Scourge “office” set up with some high-tech computer network and security shit. It should be all ready to accept any camera feeds we get access to.
Doesn’t look like that Fatherington bloke is going to leave Glasgow anytime soon, even though he hasn’t Introduced himself to Doyle. He got a fancy homeless shelter set up. It does all sorts of shit like References, PO boxes, work experience, addiction counseling, veterinary assistance for the dogs etc. I recognised one of his staff, a ghoul, from when he arrived at court, completely fucked up after his car had been ambushed on the road and Fatherington kidnapped. I don’t think he’s a big risk so I’m going to wait until court to talk to Doyle about it. Besides, my announcement for Dark Times that Fatherington isn’t accepted hasn’t been published yet.
So I’m now pretty sure that something well dodgy is up with those two missing blokes, John Ryder and Chase Brown. They both had some minor debts that had built up. Only Ryder had any to a dealer. Seems like they both hit rock-bottom then tried to sell some shit to a pawn shop on the Clyde… except that the dealer wouldn’t take the expensive items (like their playstation or gold carriage clocks) but they would take personal items like a walking stick. A few days later, the debts were paid off but the person in question had vanished. Need to get Twig to see if he can find them. I’m going to look a bit more closely at this pawn shop.
Hardest part of the month was trying to work out what shit is going on with my head. I mean, it’s not like mortal psychology and medicine really translates itself to the beast but reading up on it kinda made a few things clearer. Geez, this is a fucking painful process but if I can’t disentangle the PTSD symptoms I’ve got with the hungers of the beast then I’m well fucked. I can see how the paranoia… or maybe it comes under what the books said was “Hypervigilance”… just feeds the beast by making everything look like a target. Friends, enemies… and random folks who just happened to freak out when things got scary for them. It’s difficult to tell, but I think I’ve made some progress. Time will tell, right?
It wasn’t all work and shit, this month. I had a laugh trying to learn a pile of circus knife tricks. I mean, doing the tricks were pretty easy but it’s harder to learn how to make it into a show. I think I gave Luke (my ex-military guy) a few heart attacks using him as my lovely assistant!
