Jack had been looking out for opportunities to talk to Daniel as she rushed about the domain. She found him working out one night in the Brujah Training Ground, trying to keep a low profile.
“Hey Daniel. How have you been doing?”
“Hello Jack, I’m as well as can be expected, considering, what can I do for you?
Jack said, “I’ve been patrolling by the Elysiums and they’re always bloody dark – apart from whatever security guards they have. I can only assume that one of those guards takes bribes to let people in after dark, or how else do people end up meeting in there?
“How you been gettin’ on with them?”
Daniel replied, “As far as I was able to tell, while they are not actively being used, people tend to ignore them. While stepping in and putting some pressure here might be appropriate, I don’t believe that I have the personal resources to keep these guard’s pockets lined.”
Jack frowned thoughtfully, “Hmmmm.”
“If that’s what you were thinking?” Daniel asked.
Jack said, “Hadn’t even got that far. Mostly I was wondering if your experience was the same as mine.”
“Hmm, well, I might just swing by and introduce myself to the kine who own, guard and manage these places.”
“They must all be well open for getting a hold of, based on how many people meet in Elysiums.” Jack commented.
Daniel said, “Mostly I was trying to ensure I was there when other kindred were so I hadn’t noticed.”
Jack nodded, “Good idea. I just run by the Elysiums to see if anyone is there I don’t recognise.”
“Who else in the clan has a flair for talking to people?”
“I’d say Samuel does although I don’t see him around much.”
”Jack,” Daniel asked, “do you think any other kindred are on to this idea?”
She replied, “Not that I’ve heard… but I wouldn’t hear anyway; The court generally only talks to me when they want something.”
Daniel said, “Hmm, maybe then what about this as an idea… We take the next few weeks cautiously… keep an eye on Elysia not in use… see if anyone else is taking an interest, or if anyone specifically is paying the guards, manager, etc. If there’s minimal activity we can just sidle up and talk to these guys, make friends as we so easily do.”
“Sounds like a good idea,” Jack said.
Daniel continued, “… however if there is someone out there already looking in on this then we take a more cautious tack based on who or what is involved.”
“I don’t have the time with the scourge thing to spend a lot of time on it, “Jack said, “but I’ll keep my eye out.”
“I’m just aware that last time I went half cocked at something like this I ended up in the morgue…
“… long story…
“… I covered my tracks…
“… Masquerade is fine…
“… I even looked in on the mortals afterwards to ensure no one lost their jobs.”
Jack looked at Daniel closely, “Sounds like an interesting story, but I’ve got to dash. Catch you around!”
“Yeah, catch you next time.” Then Daniel went back to his training.
