Anatos gives Jack a phone call; after a short greeting he explains that he had lost time…
Jack: Did you get caught by the blood thief?
Anatos: Yes, good thing is I’ve got him too.
Jack: You do!?
Anatos: Or, at least, what he looks like… to a degree.
Jack cheers.
Anatos: He couldn’t escape the hidden cams – I’ve got 6 mins of footage of him and some proof of what he can do. He is young looking, very plain, coloured, was wearing a large coat and had a hat on. He spent 6 minutes wandering around the training grounds that I’ve got on tape.
However, there’s a gap in the recordings, suggested by my ability to analyse the security, it looks like enough time for me to leave the building, go around the corner, have a chat, come back and delete it before waking up and almost frenzying.
I’ll print off a picture later tonight.
Jack: Motherfuck. We’ve got a picture.
Anatos: And a video showing he’s a vamp, doesn’t have breath, etc.
Jack: I’d thought so but proof is good. When did this happen? I need a date.
Anatos: Jan 5th, so last night.
Jack: 44 days since the last known attack. I wonder how many other people got attacked this month. I suspect that there will be another 3 people.
Anatos: No idea, but I was cutting it close with eating… took a bit too much.
Jack: Similar happened to me, I almost frenzied too. I think that there is about 10-11 days between each attack. Which means we can estimate the highest generation he could be.
Anatos: How?
Jack: I can go about 10 days before I’d have trouble not frenzying from lack of blood. Torpored in a fortnight.
Anatos: I dunno how long I’d go, I try to each every night. Don’t wanna frenzy, not nice.
Jack: So he is probably the same generation as me or lower generation, but if it’s longer than 11 days between attacks then they start to get scary powerful.
Anatos: Ok, I don’t understand that? Thought if you didn’t eat, you got weaker or something.
Jack: Not weaker per se…. but you use blood to heal, fuel disciplines and make you stronger. Run out of blood and the beast takes over and goes looking for blood itself. And get hurt by fire when you’ve run out of blood and you’re dead. Now, my sire can last longer between feedings than I can so I’d guess that this blood thief is about the same generation as him. Still a guess though, but match it up with your picture and we start to get somewhere. The picture also tells us that it isn’t a Nosferatu.
Anatos: Unless they’re using that thing they did at last court where they looked normal.
Jack: My sire said that it doesn’t work on cameras.
Anatos: Oh. Okay. Didn’t know that. But what confuses me is that I was told you only see us on cameras mostly as blurs or quickened images..?
Jack: You’ve been the one looking at security cameras… What do we look like to you?
Anatos: Most of the indoors is lit with UV so er…you’re all bright white.
Jack: You said he was coloured… you sure?
Anatos: yeah
Jack: Seems a bit odd. I don’t think I’ve seen a coloured vampire before. Can you work out the height from the footage?
Anatos: 5’10” to 6 foot.
Jack: I’m a bit confused how he missed the hidden cameras.
Anatos: There’s a lot of them.
Jack: Whoever it is has got by a number of haven security systems.
Anatos: None of mine 🙂
Jack: One of them was the Nos, John Smith, who I believe was the one that fitted the nightclub VIP area stuff.
Anatos: Well, he did get me, but like, the obvious cameras he managed to keep away from. Maybe he wasn’t trying.
Jack: I should maybe get the people who’d been attacked in their havens to look at old footage and see if they can spot him on them.
Anatos: Could have been really hungry like you suggested? So, you think he’s the same generation as your sire?
Jack: Maybe mine but more likely his… my sire’s. Basically, I could last 11 days between feeding but it’d be risky. I’m 9th generation and my sire is 8th… and that is secret info by the way. Nosferatu pay for info on what generation people are.
Anatos: Ok. No idea why that’s important, but I’ll keep me trap shut.
Jack: It can give people an idea of how powerful you are. Or how old.
Anatos: Ok. Starting to sound like Daniel there.
Jack: Well, I know I can last longer in a fight than a new 13th generation, but I’d think twice against someone my sire’s generation – even if they weren’t a fighter.
Anatos: Ok.
Jack laughs, “Not that I normally get the chance to think about it!”
Anatos looks confused on the other side of the phone call.
Jack: Most of the time I only fight when I’ve lost my temper…
Anatos: Ah.
Jack: Or stupidly jump in when the clan head fucks up a coup.
Anatos: Yeah, remember to tell me if you ever plan that, just so I can carry you out the room.
Jack laughs, “I think you’re pretty safe. I have more respect for my clan than that! Fucking prick Magnar.”
Anatos laughs with her, “Better get Daniel clued up on this guy too. He’s been spending a lotta time in the ‘library’ lately. Especially the last few days.”
Jack: I’d post the picture up in the training area but I wouldn’t want to scare him off since he hasn’t attacked Daniel yet.
I think you’d better print off a few copies of those photos… I bet a few people’ll want them.
Anatos: Well, apart from giving one or two to you for your job as Scourge, and unless the prince wants to do summin official about it, I was thinkin’ mebbe some leverage.
Jack: Yeah, but it’s my job as Scourge to find this guy. I can only limit who gets one so far.
Anatos: Well like I said, you get some bein’ Scourge ‘n all. Personally, I’d like to stick his head up his ass so far he can chat with Magnar. Sure there’s others who feel the same way.
Jack: Hell, it’s also my job as Scourge to fuck him up.
Anatos: Job or joy? 🙂
Jack laughs, “Can’t it be both?”
Anatos: It’s the whole pleasure without pain thing. I think you broke the system, Jack.
Jack: Thinking of cameras reminded me… I’d picked up this digital camera before. See, I’d figured that the blood thief was following people back from the court. Well. that’s what I would do. So I tried taking photos outside the court on the way out but I wasn’t very organised about it. How about we all take turns, about every hour, to nip out and take a few photos of the area to catch anyone hiding?
Anatos: Sure. Any way of suggesting your club as the next venue?
Jack: I can suggest it, anyway. I’ll give you the camera now in case I don’t make it to the start of the court.
Anatos: Ok, i might be a bit tied up at the start meself like, but I’ll take some snaps before I go in. Just at your place i can get pics of everyone and see anyone a bit shifty
Jack: Yeah, it’s a good idea.
Anatos: Oh, by the way, I made a copy of the tape onto disc and onto the other 2 computers in the training grounds.
Jack: Great, thanks.
